Hollyoaks trailer analysis

-Opens with title card and sponsor in the corner (Nikon)

-The first shot of Paul and Mercedes shows Paul dominating the frame which connotes that he is dominant in the relationship.
-The mise en scene of the casual clothes, and the light coming from a window on the right symbolises to the audience they are at a home in a lounge.
-Pauls eyes are fixed to hers and his body is turned towards her= suffocating.
-This is backed up by the dialouge from Paul " Nothing you can ever do would push me away"
-Merceds looks down and her hair hides her face. She is displaying negative body language which shows she isn't comfortable.

-This shot then cuts to an establishing shot of Jacqui and Mercedes in the kitchen. This symbolises time has passed since the last scene.
-Mercedes is in the foreground, in focus and dominating the frame. Jacqui is looking over at her.
-The light is coming from the right again, only this time it is a lot softer and seems to be coming from a lamp or ceiling light. The fact the light is a lot softer connotes the fact that Mercedes is not in danger as she was before.
-Diagetic sound of Mercedes saying "I've never seen a man so obsessed.. obsessed with me."

-Then cuts to a shot of Paul watching over Merceds as she talks to another man. He is looking at them through a door which makes him look as though he is spying on them, proving Mercedes point of him being obsessed with her.
-Non diagetic score starts up and sounds like a heartbeat, this creates tension and suspense within the audience.

-The next scene is a cafe with some dialouge "the girl needs help" which bridges over to the next scene....

-This low angle shot shows Jacqui crawling round an office floor (we can tell it's an office from the mise en scene eg blinds, intray, desk, etc)
-The fact that Jacqui is crawling shows she is not supposed to be there
-We then see her fumbling through some drawers which is quickly followed by a reaction shot of her looking shocked which shows the audience sghe has found something out to confirm her doubts about Paul

-A keyshot is then used of Mercedes phone with 5 missed calls from Jacqui, which empahsises to the audience the danger she is in.

-The shot then cuts to a close up of Paul and Mercedes.
-Again Paul takes up about 60% of the shot, dominating the frame. The close up allows us to see how intensly he is looking at Mercedes and how close he is to her. As well as this he is abover her in the shot, all of this connotes dominance.
-The audience don't have a clear view of Mercedes' face which connotes she is vunerable.

-This shot then cuts to Jacqui fleeing Pauls place of work (we can tell it is a hospital by the mint green walls and the women dressed in nurse uniforms.)
-Dialogue= "It's Mercedes, she's in danger!"

-Quickly then cuts to Jacqui running towards a door, we presume Mercedes and Paul will be behind.

-Trailer just focuses on one storyline because this is the dominant storyline in the episode.
